Formula 1: Good times are coming, says Alonso after driving new McLaren

26 Febrero 2018

McLaren has switched to Renault power following the end of its dismal partnership with Honda, which was cut short last year.

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso remains with the team along withStoffel Vandoorne.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, the Executive Chairman and Executive Committee Principal of McLaren Group, says 2018 is the start of a new chapter for the McLaren F1 Team, as they partner with Renault Sport for the very first time.

"Looking at our new car, I feel incredibly excited - but also apprehensive", saidAlonso.

He added: "Now in winter testing we need to make sure we optimise this package but so far I'm very happy and very optimistic, I think the team did an amazing job the last couple of months".

"The car certainly looks very neat and well thought-out, and I think the new colour looks really great and really eye-catching".

Get Ready For A New Super Mario Movie From Nintendo
At Nintendo's corporate management policy briefing tonight, we learned some interesting tidbits about where the company is going. Super Mario Bros ., Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and the recent Super Mario Odyssey could all be adapted.

"And, for 2018, it's not merely the colour of the car that marks the change: there's a determination and commitment that exists within everyone who works at McLaren, and we're fighting stronger than ever to return to the front".

'Much of the work on the MCL33 has been around optimising the packaging of the new Renault engine, and the incorporation of the new halo device, ' the team confirmed. Alonso exclaimed on the McLaren web site.

Alonso will also be behind the wheel when testing begins in Barcelona on Monday at the Circuit de Catalunya. Familiar shapes can be seen with a hugely complex front wing, multi-vaned front wing mounts and the similarly-slotted rear wing endplates.

Obviously, a lot has been done to the car for 2018, but from the exterior that's visible today, there isn't enough to suggest McLaren has made a significant step.

The Renault power unit which McLaren will now utilise propelled Red Bull to three race victories last season.

Curiously missing is the S-duct in the nose, and although we can see its inlet under the car, some of the turning vanes are missing. The first race is in Australia on March 25.

"At McLaren, we are all racers - pure and simple". "Whether it's been with brave drivers, brave leaders or brave fortune, this team has always fought back".
