West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry: Brighton can kickstart survival push

In some cases flawed decisions at boardroom level will be the root cause, for others it will be poor management, while disappointing recruitment in the transfer market and underachievement on the pitch will have played a part to varying degrees, too.

The Baggies remain 19th in the league table and boss Alan Pardew is still waiting for his first win in charge in the league but he did get some joy in the FA Cup last weekend.

West Brom have a strong record against Brighton at The Hawthorns, having not lost on their own patch in their last nine meetings.

As the second half kicked-off, Dawson learned his lesson firing a bullet header past Ryan making it 2-0 for the home team after less than 10 minutes on the clock.

"It's small steps and today is a small step to get that winning feeling back in the changing room".

It took West Brom only a few minutes to open the scoreline against the visitors, as Jay Rodriguez connected with a corner sending the ball to Jonny Evans who headed the first goal of the day for the Baggies.

There is no single reason why things have unravelled at those clubs.

The fact West Brom, who have gone 20 league matches without a win, finished the summer with the joint-fifth highest net spend in the Premier League suggests money is not the be-all and end-all, even if Swansea supporters would argue that walking away from that window with a £25m profit after selling their best two players was asking for trouble. That disastrous run of results means that the Midlands club go into this contest in the relegation zone and four points behind 17th-placed Southampton. This is a side that defends well and when they are playing as a team, they are quite dangerous.

Of course, other sides - such as Celtic perhaps - could register an interest in the Northern Irish attacker, but Burnley were the big danger, given that they're massively over-achieving this season, and Albion shouldn't be hugely concerned about anyone else in England. That will be massive to build on.
