Champions Miocic, Cormier headlining UFC 226

28 Enero 2018

Miocic (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) and Cormier (20-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) both are coming off dominant title defenses last weekend at UFC 220.

The two are also set to serve as coaches for The Ultimate Fighter 27 reality series, with filming starting next week.

With the UFC's heavyweight division all but cleaned out, Miocic's next challenge will come in the form of a superfight against light-heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier.

The wife of heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has joined forces with her husband by taking a jab at the UFC.

Miocic, meanwhile, is bidding for a fourth successful title defence on the July 7 card, in Las Vegas.

In his five previous fights, Miocic won by knockout or technical knockout, and four of those bouts ended in the first round.

Federer has won 8 of 9 against Cilic including two wins last year both in London, in the Wimbledon final and at the ATP Finals. Obviously, anything can happen regarding rehab and when it comes to scheduling the world No. 1's next tournaments.

Prior to this announcement, Cormier had scoffed at the idea of returning to heavyweight, not only because he didn't want to return to the larger weight class, but also to avoid a clash with his teammate and friend former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. "With all the defenses he has, Stipe just broke the record for most defenses, so it's a fun fight".

According to FightMetric, Miocic held control of Ngannou for 15 of the 25 minutes in The Octagon, and while in the clinch and guard, he landed many of his 200 strikes.

Francis Ngannou misses with an uppercut against Stipe Miocic during a heavyweight championship mixed martial arts bout at UFC 220, early Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, in Boston. He now rides a six-fight winning streak, knocking out five of those opponents.

Cormier, 38, has fought as a heavyweight before, boasting a 13-0 record and winning the 2012 Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix before moving down to 205 pounds. With all the contenders available in the light heavyweight division and heavyweight division, there are many great fighters to choose from.

Cormier and Gustafsson previously fought in the headliner at UFC 192 in October 2015 in Houston, Texas. He enjoyed a flawless 13-0 record at heavyweight, defeating the likes of Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Josh Barnett and Antonio Silva.
