Pay-To-Play 'Star Wars Battlefront II' Enrages Gamers

14 Noviembre 2017

It's quite awesome, really; in a relatively short time frame, employees have been threatened, the company posted the most downvoted Reddit thread in history, and-without a doubt-someone somewhere got hurt. A reply by an EA Community Team employee who said the cost was meant to "provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes" was heavily ridiculed and became one of the most downvoted posts in Reddit history.

But once you get into the meat of the game, there is a lot more to unpack than it first appears.

In response, EA has slashed the amount of in-game currency required to unlock Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker - the game's most expensive heroes and villains - from 60,000 credits to 15,000.

Here we delve into some beginner's tips for the game to help you get a head-start and get your head around some of the game's more esoteric aspects. "Based on what we've seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players".

The most illustrious heroes, such as Luke and Vader, now "only" cost 15000 credits opposed to 60000; a 75% reduction.

Star Wars Battlefront (2015) was very disappointing to gamers, and when EA announced Star Wars Battlefront 2 fans were very excited, and EA hyped the game.

Yesterday, a Redditor shared their outrage that franchise favorite Darth Vader was locked. EA is hosting a Reddit AMA this Wednesday to further hear concerns from fans, so use it as a chance to speak your mind about how these systems seem overtly exploitative. More specifically, the realisation that numerous franchise's most memorable characters wouldn't be playable in the game from the get-go.

"Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can". It has also vowed to keep making changes until people are happy - although the presence of a loot box system of any kind may prevent that.

EA is set to release Star Wars Battlefront II this Friday, November 17. GearsOfBiz critic Alessandro Fillari scored the game a 6/10 and wrote, "While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about".

"There was the conversation around loot boxes, which is not a Star Wars: Battlefront II-specific conversation but more one that the industry is having with players across the global community", he explained.

In other news, a few hours ago EA's Community Manager revealed that he has received death threats after the controversy exploded behind this title.
