Bayern's Sagnol thrown in at the deep end — Bundesliga preview

01 Octubre 2017

Ancelotti received his marching orders on Thursday after a 3-0 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain proved the last straw amid a difficult start to 2017-18 for the Bundesliga champions.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness blamed Ancelotti's sacking on his poor relationship with some players in the squad. "Our team's performances since the start of the season have not met our expectations", said Rummenigge.

Ancelotti failed to find a way to implement the Raumdeuter into his system and that will be a major talking point in the future whenever someone brings up his time at Bayern Munich. Despite dropping points early in the season in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, Bayern managed to bounce back and eventually won the Bundesliga and lost in the Champions League quarterfinals against the eventual Champions Real Madrid.

"At the end, though, it wasn't one game". In their official club statement, Bayern said they had "split" from the 58-year-old following internal meetings since the midweek defeat to PSG.

"It's true that that we don't want situations like what happened to Ancelotti".

"I love Carlo", he said.

Five senior players have had enough of Carlo and it was basically a case of him or them: Frank Ribéry, Arjen Robben, Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and Boateng. Robben went on only when Dani Alves, Cavani, and Neymar had already put the French side out of sight.

Robert Lewandowski, Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara are among the players to have paid tribute to their former boss on social media.

"He is one of the best head coaches in the world".

"Carlo is my friend and will remain so, but we had to make a professional decision in the interests of FC Bayern".

"The fact that the coach in one whack antagonized five players, [Kingsley] Coman didn't play as well, he'd never have survived it".

While the German is tied down to a long-term contract at Anfield, he was still asked about the developments at Bayern during his Friday press conference.

According to German daily Bild, the 44-year-old Tuchel is in Munich and in talks to take over at the Bavarian giants having been sacked by current Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund in May.
