But it didn't work as expected. "[Zuckerberg's] ads are something you want to watch".

Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion in 2014.

Revenue growth during the quarter was entirely driven by growth in advertising revenue. The mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 87% of advertising revenue for the second quarter of 2017, up from approximately 84% of advertising revenue in the second quarter of 2016.

However, with more users on board, WhatsApp has also become an echo chamber of fake news. It follows one of Facebook's most subtle (official) tweaks to the module about three years ago. Some are going to be too young, some too old, some too paranoid and some just simply not bothered.

Credit Suisse analyst Stephen Ju raised his price target on Facebook to 190 from 180 and maintained an outperform rating. "Facebook might well be the best growth story in tech", he wrote in a research note.

La secretaria de prensa de la Casa Blanca Sarah Huckabee Sanders, en un breve encuentro con reporteros, respondió a una pregunta sobre lo sucedido y si Trump les debía una disculpa.

In May this year it was claimed those same algorithms can determine and allow advertisers to pinpoint "moments when young people need a confidence boost".

The company also is accelerating its push into video, an effort aimed at taking advertising dollars from the television industry and increasing the time people spend on Facebook. Facebook CFO Dave Wehner confirmed so during a conference call with analyst, saying it will reach the limit of the number of ads it can show in the newsfeed, hence the slowdown. If something starts to p*ss of users, it is yanked pretty quickly. In contrast, Snapchat only has 166 million users, which doesn't come anywhere close to either Facebook or WhatsApp or Instagram's numbers. Currently, it's unarguably the biggest instant messaging app and dwarfs its competitors like Telegram, Signal, Hike and others by hundreds of millions of users.

Facebook revealed that its headcount is around 20,000, vastly lower than Google's 75,000-strong workforce, but growing fast by 43pc on last year. I think we're making progress there.

One billion people check WhatsApp every day.

"We're not asking for millions", Victor tells The Guardian. The app is used in over 60 languages, says the company. The Facebook owned company has announced that it now has 1 billion daily active users on its service. And while this does present a bigger opportunity, greater progress has been made on Messenger.
